What is Your Path? Non-specific personal Paganism
About Me I'm easy-going, open-minded, and friendly. I'm a curious and thoughtful person who reads a lot and asks many questions. I believe that there's no such thing as a 'stupid' question when it comes to gaining knowledge or learning more about the world and the people around me.
Music My taste in music is a bit eclectic. In general: rock'n'roll, some heavy metal, blues, swing/rockabilly, celtic and pagan, chants. More specifically: Rob Zombie, old Megadeth, Mediaeval Baebes, Loreena McKennit, Patsy Cline, Natalie McMaster, Joss Stone, Aerosmith, Black Crowes, Benedictine Monks, Iron and Wine. I've recently been listening to Therion as well. I'm not normally into death metal/gothic music but I like how Therion experiments with an operatic sound with some of their songs.
Movies all-time Favorites? Indiana Jones trilogy (I'm impatiently waiting to watch the next one in the movie theaters!), Matrix trilogy, _From Dusk til Dawn_, _Ice Age_ and _Ice Age II_, _Romancing the Stone_ and _Jewel of the Nile_, _War of the Roses_, _Goonies_, _Grease_, _Princess Bride_, _Dogma_, _Heathers_, _The Day After Tomorrow_, _Deep Impact_. There are a lot of recent movies I'd like to see.
TV I don't watch much TV.
Books I read a lot. In general: sci-fi/fantasy (leaning more towards fantasy), books about the outdoors, post-apocalyptic fiction, 'educational' books. More specifically: _The Wheel of Time_ series by Robert Jordan; _Tailchaser's Song_ and the _Otherworld_ trilogy by Tad Williams; _Lucifer's Hammer_; _Dies the Fire_ and _The Protector's War_ by S.M. Stirling; _The Illiad_ and _The Oddessey_ by Homer; _Scraping Heaven_; _Guns, Germs, and Steel_ by Jason Diamond; _Journey to the Ants_; Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. Lately, I've been collecting books about homeschooling, spirituality, and the Druids. Currently, I'm reading _The Earth Path_ by Starhawk. It's a very interesting read and I'm enjoying Starhawk's earth-centered perspective.
Hobbies Like most people, I have a wide variety of interests: my children; reading (a lot!); nature and being outdoors; tattoos; making and using prayer beads; exploring different types of music, cultures (past and present), and spiritual beliefs (especially the Celtic, Native American, and shamanic paths); meditation; taoism; cooking (I especially enjoy making soup); drinking tea; learning Brazilian Portuguese; expressing my creative side; learning about holistic healing techniques; archeology and anthropology; people watching; taking the 'scenic route'; watching my seedlings grow.

    A Beautiful Saturday

Sunday, April 20, 2008, 11:30 AM CST [General]

I had a great day yesterday.  One of the local metaphysical shops, the one closest to me, had a 'party' to celebrate Earth Day.  I took my closest friend with me.  She's been interested in Paganism for a while and has recently started exploring it more.  She's also been interested in going to the shop with me, so it was a good time to bring her along.  We bought a few interesting things, I won a door prize(!), and I brought home a baby pine tree to nurture.  We came back to my place before joining our menfolk and children at the park to grill out.  My friend had asked me to do a tarot reading for her, so we did that before gathering the rest of the picnic supplies.  It was interesting.  I haven't done a reading in a while and am fairly inexperienced, but it went well.  It gave her a lot to think about, I believe.

Going to the park was nice, too.  It's the first time we've grilled out this year, and the kids enjoyed it very much.  They always like spending time together, and all were sad to part ways.

While the kids were bathing, I did a reading for my husband.  I've had my tarot decks for several years now and have never done a reading for him using either one of them.  The reading was frighteningly accurate.  I think it discouraged him in some ways, but I hope it acts as a catlyst for him and he realizes there are things he can do on all levels to make changes for the better.

I've come to the conclusion that I need to start developing my skills and studying my interests more seriously.  Right now, I have two I'd like to expand upon: learning about herbs and their many uses, and studying the tarot.  The problem is that I'm not sure I can study both of them at the same time, so I may have to choose which one I'd like to work on first.  However, I do have the Herbal Tarot, so I may be able to study both of them together.  Maybe I can pick a card from my deck at the beginning of the week and study that particular herb and the meanings of that particular card (both the traditional meaning and the meaning of the card as represented in my deck) for the rest of the week ~ longer, if I feel it's necessary.  I can try that and see how it works.

Tonight I'm determined to begin my routine!

    Groups of fours for change

Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 02:11 PM CST [General]

Lately I've been spending my time on things I shouldn't spend so much time or energy on. Things that don't really help me and, instead, take away from that which is important in my life. I want to make changes, obviously.

I've decided to make a list of four things I need/want to do in the mornings, and a list of four things I need/want to do in the evenings after the kids go to bed. Some of it is common sense or things that I *obviously* already do on a daily basis, but I figure if I group things I don't do daily with things I already do, I'll automatically associate all four things together and if I do one, I'll do the others.

    Mornings:
    1. get breakfast
    2. take care of pets and plants
    3. get ready for the day (including a morning ritual)
    4. exercise (take walks, practice yoga, go for a bike ride)

Evenings after the kids go to bed:
    1. finish cleaning the kitchen
    2. take the dog out
    3. work on projects/read
    4. meditate/perform a ritual

I want all of this to flow as easily as, well, breathing. After I'm comfortable with these routines, I'dd like to add more. Maybe a late morning routine and an early evening routine. Four groups of four sounds great....

Oh - you have a balcony! How lucky :) I just put a couple of plants on our "terrace" as I keep mistakenly call our fire escape ;)

My husband did a bit of rearranging of the living room furniture last weekend - it is working out much better this way. However, all the photos & other things hung on the walls are now temporarily living on the floor. We are getting a new sofa (old one is too small and way to trashed I am embarrassed to say!) from IKEA so we are waiting to see how that looks before we replace the things on the wall.

Leo goes to London on Sunday and he's back for a day or so Friday the 9th and leaves for Arizona on Sunday the 11th, phew! He hasn't been on any of these faraway trips in a long time. Funny thing - I had a dream we went to England then Scotland a week or so before he found out about the trip. Sadly, I am not going, and he won't have much time to even leave his hotel (where he will be working) let alone go to Scotland :( I won't be going at all :( :( :(

Oh well, maybe "next time" :) ...
